Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma: True Visionary Leader And Embodiment Of Altruism

Leadership is a practical skill held by a person or organisation and entails guiding and managing individuals, teams, or entire departments. Leadership may be considered a process of social influencing where a person – the leader – is given the means to carry out a common task.

The way in which the leader ensures these common objectives are reached is his or her individual way of leading. When altruism is combined with leadership, that means the leader’s focus is reaching the common objectives while leading in a selfless way, where the happiness of the employees is paramount.

During his inaugural speech as Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma said: “This is the time and indeed the hour, for us to join hands and build the “New Imo” of prosperity for all.”

After three years in office the question is, did he actualize that visionary and prophetic pronouncement? The answer is an emphatic Yes.

In so many ways and in all the sectors, Gov. Uzodimma has set in motion a quantum leap in the drive for a new and rebranded Imo, on an irreversible trajectory of sustainable economic development and prosperity.

In all sectors, Gov. Uzodimma is making strategic long term investments.

Good and motorableh roads are sine qua non for rapid socio-economic development as there can be no New Imo State, without good and well-paved road network.

So far Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has proven his mettle with the reconstruction of  Trunks A, B and C roads in Imo State.

For the fact that the civil service is the engine room of efforts toward attaining a “New Imo of our dreams,” Governor Uzodimma has deliberately repositioned the Imo Civil service.

The health sector is not left out as Gov. Uzodimma has renovated over 305 health centres, provided free mobile clinics and ambulance services for Imo people.

The education sector is also receiving adequate attention because there cannot be a “New Imo” without educated populace with relevant skills.

Equally, there cannot be stability without security – which is of paramount importance to Governor Uzodimma and his earnest desire is that every Imo citizen and resident must dwell in safety.

Gov. Uzodimma is also expanding the economy of Imo State, creating employment opportunities, engaging and empowering the youths through novel programmes like the  “Skill-up Imo” coupled with the attraction of foreign investments and grants from the World Bank totaling $30million (N21bn).

The Governor, had taken a decision to conform with the World Bank State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS), programme and he is working diligently to earn 2023 grant for the State from the bank.

The funds received so far,  were ploughed into  ongoing and completed infrastructural projects embarked upon by the Uzodimma administration and no previous administration could achieve such a great feat since the

creation of the State  in 1976.

Equally, Gov. Uzodimma has constructed and commissioned  more than 100 roads apart from other astounding achievements including the recovery of over 800 hectares of stolen and appropriated land by previous administrations and returning same to the original owners, provision of mobile clinics, purging the civil service of ghost workers, payroll thieves and repositioning the civil service for more efficient service delivery with the provision of vehicles to convey them to and fro the State Secretariat,  abrogation of pension for former Governors, their deputies, Speakers and deputy Speakers, which was hitherto, draining the lean resources of the State, transparency and accountability in budget process, creation of employment opportunities for Imo people, recovery of stolen Imo assets, the massive road reconstruction that has been described as “revolution,” by no less a person than President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR), recovery of Standard Shoe Factory, K.O Mbadiwe University, Ogboko, containment of insecurity in the State, establishment of Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri with the help of the Federal Government,

Naval Base at Oguta, empowerment of Imo youths through the Skill-up Imo Project, activation of Universal Health Coverage for Civil Servants and indigent people, prompt and automated payment of salaries and pension, 13th-month salary, promotion of stagnated civil servants,  dredging of Oguta Lake –Orashi River waterway linking Imo State with the Atlantic Ocean and breaking the landlocked status of the entire Southeast Zone in the process etc.

Imo people and indeed Nigerians are proud of His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma because of his style of leadership, which is visionary, creative, altruistic,  people-oriented, nationalistic and in sync with the fine principles of integrative good governance even as he strives to deliver democracy dividends to Imo people.

The Uzodimma philosophy is a veritable and inspiring tribute to virtues of hard work, sincerity, heroism, sacrifice, ingenuity, philanthropy and mentorship to the people.
