Posted on June 1, 2023

The Macallan, renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and unwavering commitment to excellence, is set to captivate Lagos on Friday, June 2, 2023, with the exclusive unveiling of the 2022 release of its M Collection at the exquisite Art Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

The M Collection, comprising The Macallan M Decanter, The Macallan M Black, and The Macallan M Copper, epitomises the fusion of art, design and technology.

The decanter itself is a testament to creative brilliance, designed by Fabien Baron, a renowned French creative designer and art director.

It was masterfully crafted by Lalique, an esteemed French crystal maker, with The Macallan bringing the entire collection together with its unique touch.

The Macallan has captured its six defining pillars within The M Collection — Natural Colour, Mastery, Curiously Small Spirit Stills, The Estate, Exceptional Oak Casks and Sherry Seasoning.

Speaking towards the launch, Brand Manager, Edrington Portfolio, Nigeria, Hammed Adebiyi, says “The Macallan M collection is a celebration of the brand’s six pillars, the foundation stones on which almost 200 years of excellence and its renowned quality rests. The collection showcases the unique attributes and uncompromised excellence of The Macallan, and we are delighted to bring the experience to Nigeria.”

The evening promises a range of captivating experiences, enabling guests to savour the collection firsthand while immersing themselves in the rich blend of Nigerian and Scottish heritages.

From impeccable art crafted by local artists to enchanting melodies of subtle percussion instruments, the launch promises to be a sensory experience and a celebration of the finer things in life.

With meticulously designed luxurious packaging that exudes attention to detail, each expression from the M Collection is anticipated to be priced at up to $5,000, making it a highly coveted and sought-after whisky offering among Nigeria’s elite.

A report by Euromonitor International, ‘Alcoholic drinks in 2021: The big picture’ shows that the total sales of alcoholic beverages (drinks) in Africa’s biggest economy surged to a six-year high in 2021 despite increased prices.

Also, Statista estimates the revenue in the Nigerian whisky market to stand at US$163.80m in 2023.

The market is still expected to grow annually by 11.28% (CAGR 2023-2027), with international brands eyeing the space.

In December 2022, The Macallan launched its cacao-rich Harmony Collection in Nigeria in an an exclusive event that introduced Nigerians to the eco-friendly offering.

The brand also partnered with eponymous fashion house, Mai Atafo, for its return to the runway after a three-year hiatus that same month.

With investments across fashion, art and music industries in Nigeria, the whisky brand is expected to do more across the country this year.
