A 15-year old boy, Kizito Nwanokwara, has been arrested in Lagos State and charged for allegedly burgling his neighbour’s apartment and stealing properties worth about N3m.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the properties he allegedly stole included N464,000 cash and gold jewelries worth $3,000 USD kept in the house by the owner, Eze Okeke Ogbonna.
The incident happened at Ifeanyi Mgbalu Street, Canal Estate, Ago Okota, Lagos, where the victim, Ogbonna, resides.
According to Police sources, the suspect, Kizito, broke into the apartment when nobody was inside, stole the items and escaped to the surprise of other neighbours.
However, he ran out of luck when he went to sell the jewelries as he was caught by a neighbour who knew what happened and informed the owner.
The matter was then reported to the Police at Ago Division; he was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged criminal conduct.
During interrogation, he reportedly confessed committing the alleged offence. Thus, the Police found him culpable and then charged him before the Yaba Magistrate Court for burglary and stealing which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P. E. Nwaka, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified.
The matter was adjourned while the defendant was kept in custody at the Remand Home because of his age pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
