A jilted 28-year old man, Mohammed Nasiru, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly battering his estranged lover, Adeasun Aminat and insisting that she must get married to him.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at AGIP area of Agege, Lagos, where they reside.
The lady, Miss Aminat, got herself into trouble after she told Nasiru that she was no longer interested in their relationship because she will not be able to cope with him. That did not go down well with Nasiru, who insisted that he had already spent huge sums of money on her, had reached the point of no return in their relationship and so she must get married to him.
The lady, Aminat, however, insisted that the relationship was over and that prompted Nasiru to grab her, beat her mercilessly with fist blows and injured her in the process.
The matter was reported to the Police at Elere Division. Nasiru was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, Nasiru told the Police that he had spent huge sums of money on Aminat with the intention that he will get married to her as they had agreed only for her to tell him that she was no longer interested.
He insisted that Aminat must honour their agreement by accepting to get married to him because he will not allow her to go while threatening that he will kill her if she refuses to stick to their agreement.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable for assault and threatening to kill the victim and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Clifford Ogu, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Odubayo, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
However, the defendant insisted that Aminat must get married to him and he will not allow her to go despite the fact that he was remanded in prison custody over his alleged conduct.
