An Evening With The Chinese Consul General

It was a rainy and raw day. And you know what vehicular traffic speaks on such days in Lagos. Not pleasant.

But the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, Yan Yuqing, had been scheduled to host me to a welcome home dinner, along with her staff at the Idejo, Victoria Island, Consulate. So I had to wade through hell and high waters to get there.

And what a lovely evening it was. Yan Yuqing was friendly, witty, a good conversationalist. And the dinner? Sumptuous.

We talked diplomacy. Nigeria-China relations. How China could further assist Nigeria in infrastructure, security, education, cultural exchange, sports, and many others, including exchange visits by the media.

The Chinese have made a miracle of their country, all within a couple of decades. Nigeria will get there too.

Thanks, the first female Chinese Consul General to Nigeria.

Xiexie. That’s how to say thank you in Chinese.
