An 18-year old boy, Ahmed Abubakar, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly killing a 13-year old boy, Ekene Derechukwu, by stabbing him with a knife and he bled to death.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened under the bridge at Ijora Badia area of Lagos, when they engaged in a public fight over an undisclosed matter.
The Police alleged the suspect had a disagreement with the deceased over an undisclosed matter, he then brought out a knife and stabbed him on the chest during the fight.
The deceased fell down and was said to have bled profusely before he was rushed to an undisclosed hospital but by then he was already dead. The Doctors at the hospital merely certified him dead and the corpse was deposited at mortuary for autopsy reports.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ijora Badia Division and he was arrested. He was later transferred to the SCID, Yaba, for further investigation over the alleged murder.
After rounds of serious interrogation,  the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the
Yaba Magistrate Court for murder under Section 223 of the the Criminal code of the state.
But the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be made available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
