A 23-year old housewife, Adejoke Adegbite, has been arrested for allegedly arranging with her lover, Olasunkanmi Olowoyeye, to kill her husband, Matthew Akinsulie, in Ekiti State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ogotun Ekiti area, Ekiti State, where they reside.
Both Mrs. Adogoke and Mr. Olowoyeye have been charged before the Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court for the alleged murder.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Sadiq Adeniyi, told the Court that the deceased’s father, in his statement to the Police, stated that Mrs. Adegoke Adegbite was his late son’s wife, while Olowoyeye was her lover, and the duo were allegedly responsible for his son’s death.
The charge read: “That Olowoyeye and Adegbite on 26th June, 2023, at Ogotun Ekiti, reasonably suspected to have committed an offence of conspiracy to murder and the murder of Akinsulie.”
The offences were said to be contrary to Sections 244 and 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The Court did not take their plea when they were arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Dolapo Kay-Williams, ordered the two defendants to be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ado Ekiti, pending issuance of legal advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Court ordered the prosecutor to duplicate case file and forward to the office of the DPP for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned till 7th August, 2023, for mention for the report of DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
