Police operatives from the Ogun State Command have busted a “one chance” robbery gang, arrested three suspects and recovered their operational vehicle.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects were arrested by Police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Sakura Police Divisional Headquarters, Ibiyeye Bolaji Hakeem, who smashed the robbery gang that specialised in forcing their victims to swear an oath after robbing them.
The gang met their waterloo after the Police trailed them. It means that residents of Sagamu, Ijebu area and its environs may now heave a sigh of relief because the robbers were believed to have been among those terrorising both environs.
This was disclosed by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects namely, Ayomidele Akerele, Yinka Olanipekun and Olatunde Olapade, on 24th July, 2023.
She stated that the suspects were part of the gang that had been spearheading a series of robberies using commercial buses.
Odutola said: “The suspects’ modus operandi is to pick up passengers at garages and after a few minutes into the journey, the robbers will demand passengers’ valuables, and dispossess them of their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards”.
“They even order their victims to transfer money into an account from the victim’s account to another account. They also make their passengers swear to a fearful-looking statue that they will not reveal their ordeal to anyone else they will die.”
“Thereafter these robbers will push their victims out of the moving vehicle.
“That was how they played out in this case, where they collected the sum of N150,000 from Isaac Alabi and pushed her off a moving vehicle.”
“The three suspects have confessed to the crime and the vehicle has also been recovered and moved to the Police station.”
Odutola explained that earlier in June, a similar occurrence took place, which made Hakeem work on information given to Police by victims and then collaborated with road transport workers to succeed in smashing this current gang.
The image maker stated that it was important to mention that the suspects, who are currently in Police custody, reside in the Oje Beere area of Ibadan, Oyo State, but usually carry out their nefarious activities in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has commended the DPO and his men for cracking the case and bringing to an end the reign of the gang.
Mustapha also urged Policemen under his watch to continue with the tempo of the DPO of Sakura until armed robbers were flushed out of the state.
He assured members of the public of the unflinching vigilance and alertness of the Police, stressing that his men are ever ready to battle crimes and criminals to a standstill in Ogun State.
She stated that the suspects will be charged before the Court after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
