UNILAG Student, 20, Docked For Hacking Into Examination Portal & Manipulating Result

Police detectives have arrested a 20-year old student of University of Lagos Distance Learning Institute, Popoola Damilare, for allegedly hacking into the school examination portal and manipulating his result.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 21st July, 2023, at the school campus, Akoka area of Lagos.
The suspect, Damilare, has been charged for conspiracy and fraud.
According to the Police, the suspect and others now at large at the Distance Learning Institute of the school at Akoko, Lagos, conspired, forged and modified the computer data of the school by hacking into the portal and manipulating his result by placing his passport in the examination docket with matric number 18100977 of the Distance learning of the school.
However, the school management later discovered the scam and contacted the Police at Sabo Division. He was subsequently arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, told the Court that the alleged offence the defendant committed was contrary to Sections 168, 389 and 365 of the Criminal code and punishable under the law.
The defendant pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Patrick Nwaka, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 19th November, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
