A 29-year old fake senior Police officer,  Nonso Jude Amadi, has been arrested and charged for battering a Police woman, Inspector Mariam Shuaibu, attached to Area M Command, Idimu, under the false pretence of monitoring the illegal activities of Police officers on the road in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports the suspect, Amadi, accosted Inspector Shuaibu while performing her duty at Pipeline Bus Stop along Idimu-Igando Road in Idimu,  Lagos, and gave her serious beatings for stopping the commercial bus he was inside and claimed that she was performing an illegal duty.

While he was beating Inspector Shuaibu with the claim that he was a senior Police officer, Shuaibu bore the pains until she was rescued by people around the bus stop, who accosted Amadi to know why he would beat the woman like that.

During interrogation, his claims as a senior Police officer became suspicious and he was taken to the Area M Command for further interrogation.

While being interrogated further, the Police discovered that he was not a senior Police officer as he had claimed and have inflicted serious injury on Inspector Mariam Shuaibu, who had accorded him respect as senior Police officer.

The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for allegedly assaulting the Policewoman and impersonation.

However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
