Man, 35, Sent To Prison For Pretending To Be Dead During Clash With Police

A 35-year old man, Nwofe Chibueze, has landed in trouble for allegedly pretending to be dead during a clash with Police operatives from Idimu Division. His purported death was circulated on social media alleging that the Police killed him in Lagos State. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the purported death of Chibueze caused serious tension both in the area and at the Police station as they was panic that one of the officers had killed Chibueze.

 

However, after sometime, Chibueze woke up. But by then the angry mob had attacked the Police officers and destroyed their operational vehicle over the purported killing.

 

The incident happened on 9th September, 2023, at Isheri Expressway, Idimu area of Lagos, where the Police accosted Chibueze over an undisclosed matter.

 

When he was accosted, he fell down and pretended to be dead and the Police were helpless. By then the information has spread that the Police had killed Chibueze during the clash.

Following his action, the people around attacked the Police officers on routine monitoring and wilfully damaged the patrol mini bus they hired, which belonged to Tosin Fajiyighe.

 

When Chibueze eventually woke up, the Police arrested him and consequently charged him for malicious damage and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.

The Police alleged that Chibueze pretended to be dead and misled members of the public, who recorded the action on video and put on the social media thereby causing malicious damage to the Police.

He was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Laws of the State.

 

However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu- Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

 

The matter was adjourned till 30th October, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
