An Islamic teacher, Obasanmi Waliyullah, will be spending the next 21 years in prison custody for attempting to defile his 15-year old female student in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, which found him guilty as charged after he pleaded guilty to the charge before the Court.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, sentenced him following his guilty plea to the two amended charges of attempted sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The judge convicted and sentenced Waliyullahi to 14 years imprisonment for the first count of attempting to commit sexual assault by penetration and seven years for the second count of indecent treatment of a child.
This was confirmed by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), which hailed the Court judgment for the conviction on the attempted sexual assault.
The agency commended the judgment in a tweet posted on its official Twitter handle @LSdvsa on Wednesday.
It stated that justice had been served after the Court found the defendant guilty of the offence and was consequently sentenced.
“Justice has been served, his name will be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by Lagos State,” it stated.
It also stated that the agency reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance stance while restating its commitment to helping survivors of sexual offences and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
“We remain committed to helping survivors and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.”
“Let us continue to demand justice for survivors.
