A 33-year old man, Samuel Adeniyi, has been arrested in Lagos State and charged for allegedly killing his 25-year old lady friend, Sarah Sunday, by using a sledge hammer to smash her head.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Audu Ekpa Street, Lekki Phase one area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect had a disagreement with the deceased, which led to exchange of hot words over an undisclosed matter. The matter later degenerated and in the process, the suspect was alleged to have brought out the hammer and hit the lady on her head. The deceased reportedly slumped and died in the process. But she was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where she was merely confirmed dead by doctors and her corpse was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy reports.
The matter was reported to the Police at Maroko Division. The suspect was then arrested by Police operatives and detained at the station for interrogation over the alleged murder.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged murder.
The Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor,  Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
