Recognising the intrinsic connection between craftsmanship and the world of high fashion, The Macallan recently partnered with acclaimed Nigerian fashion designer, Mai Atafo, for the unveiling of ATAFO’s Spring/Summer ‘24 Collection – Sartorial Reverie.

The fashion show was held on 24 October at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The partnership served as a testament to The Macallan’s unwavering commitment to building Africa’s fashion ecosystem into a globally competitive and sustainable industry.

Presenting a harmonious fusion of classic tailoring and contemporary design elements, the SS ‘24 collection reflected ATAFO’s commitment to timeless tailoring and innovative spirit.

It also offered a sophisticated yet modern range of garments that cater for life’s various occasions.

The remarkable event attracted an esteemed gathering of over 700 guests, including Richard-Mofe Damijo, Aituaje ‘Waje’ Iruobe, Banky Wellington, Adesua Wellington, Alexx Ekubo, Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, Shaffy Bello, IK Osakioduwa, Timi Dakolo, IK Ogbonna, Prince Nelson-Enwerem, Akin Faminu, Idia Aisen, Dimma Umeh, Mimi ‘Medlin Boss Yina and Ilebaye Odinaya – among others.

Brand Manager, Edrington Portfolio, Nigeria, Hammed Adebiyi, in a statement, said: “The Sartorial Reverie collection is a celebration of the mastery at ATAFO and for The Macallan, it presents a unique opportunity to continue to emphasise our commitment to celebrating craftsmanship and elevating experiences by investing in exceptional talents like Mai Atafo.”

Speaking on the collaboration, Mai Atafo revealed that “I feel honoured to be partnering with a brand like The Macallan; they recognise the value of an event of this magnitude, and that is something special. Usually, fashion is overlooked when it comes to sponsorships. So, having The Macallan do this with me is very noteworthy. The collection ‘Sartorial Reverie’ is a celebration of my commitment to elevating the craftsmanship at ATAFO, and nothing emphasises mastery like The Macallan.”

The fashion industry in Africa is rapidly expanding and holds tremendous potential.

Projections indicate a revenue of US$1.3 billion and an impressive annual growth rate of 10.3% from 2023 to 2027, solidifying its status as a multi-billion dollar sector.

As long-time partners of the ATAFO brand, The Macallan had developed a history of supporting its laudable efforts. Earlier in the year, both brands collaborated to ensure the success of the ‘Fashion Conversations’ workshop — a platform for 70 young designers in Lagos and Abuja to gain industry insights through in-depth conversations about the commercialisation of fashion and tips on how to navigate the fashion industry.

In the past year, the brand has also invested in the Nigerian creative and art industry.

Recently, the whisky brand supported British-Nigerian artist, Sadiq Ajibola Williams, for his solo art exhibition and visual artists, Ebuka Anyiam and Olawale Moses for their ‘True’ joint exhibition.
