A 35-year old lady, Queen Omozuzi, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a man, Olusegun Ogunsanwo, of the sum of N23.75m and bolting away.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the lady, Queen Omozuzi, has been arrested and charged for fraud.
The incident happened on 10th August, 2023, at Toyin Street, Ikeja area of Lagos, where Queen accosted Ogunsanwo.
According to the Police, the lady obtained the sum of 30,500 Euros under the false pretence of exchanging it to Naira equivalent and Ogunsanwo trusted her. He gave her the money unknown to him,the lady Queen, had the motive to defraud him.
She was said to have collected the money, bolted away and disconnected every communication she had with the victim instead of exchanging the money as she promised.
The matter was reported to the Commissioner of Police, who directed his Special Squad to go after Queen Omozuzi. She was tracked, eventually arrested and then detained at the Command for interrogation over her alleged criminal conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found her culpable and asked to refund the money. She told the Police that she had already spent the money and will not be able to refund it to the victim.
The Police consequently charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged fraud and stealing, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, she pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O Layinka, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses must be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre, Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
