A 23-year-old man, Saidi Musa Elemosho, has been arrested and charged in Kwara State for allegedly using a cutlass to kill his biological father, Chief Musa, for abusing him.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect allegedly macheted his father, the late Chief Musa Elemosho of Share Land, in  Ifelodun Local Government area of Kwara State.
Consequently, he was arrested and charged before the Magistrate Court presided by Magistrate Muhammed Dauki for the culpable homicide under the Criminal law of the State.
According to the Police, the defendant, Saidi, claimed that his father was cursing him without any reason while in the sitting room. He reportedly got annoyed as a result of his father’s unpleasant words, attacked him with a cutlass on the head, hitting him several times till he died, and later escaped to a mountain in Share community.
The Police prosecutor, Sergeant Abdullah Sanni, informed the Court that the matter is not bailable because it is a  case of culpable homicide under the Criminal code, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
He urged the Court to consider the motion ex parte attached to order the defendant to be kept in custody at the correctional facility and refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the offence.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Dasuki, in his short ruling, ordered Saidi to be remanded in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 9th January, 2024, for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
