An 18-year old, Mubarak Akadiri, has been arrested and charged in Ondo State for allegedly killing a 62-year old retired head teacher, Mrs. Sidikat Adamolekun, for catching him stealing her phone worth N66,000.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Mubarak, the son of the victim’s housemaid, revealed that he used a wooden stool to repeatedly hit the elderly woman on the head when she caught him stealing the phone.
“As usual, I went to the house to work and I later came back to steal her Samsung phone. Unfortunately, the deceased caught me after I have stolen the phone. So, she held me and in an attempt to escape, I used a wooden stool to hit her head. But the old woman kept shouting for help. Thereafter, I hit her repeatedly on her head until she fell and died.”
The suspect having killed the deseased,  escaped and the matter was reported to the Police. Operatives then trailed, eventually arrested and detained him for interrogation over his alleged dastardly conduct.
After rounds of interrogation,  the Police found him culpable for wilfully killing the deseased and consequently charged him before the Akure Magistrate Court for murder.
However,  the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned. The Presiding Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, ordered the remand of Mubarak at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advice.
The matter was adjourned till 15th March, 2024, for mention for the report of DPP’s advice on the matter to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
