68th ‘Birthday Bash’ For Bash Ali On 27 February In Abuja, Lagos

Posted on February 5, 2024

Bash Ali Fans Club of Nigeria (BAFCON), Lagos and Abuja chapters are set to organise a “Birthday Bash” for the African Boxing Ambassador, Bashiru Lawrence Ali, OON to celebrate his birthday on 27 February, 2024.

The World Boxing Federation (WBF) cruiserweight champion will turn 68 on 27 February and the fans of the iconic boxer say it will be a day to celebrate the boxing legend.

The Birthday Bash will take place at the Art and Cultural Centre Area 10 in Abuja, while some artists are scheduled to showcase their talent on that day.

National President of BAFCON, Comrade Dickson Ayorinde Oshin said Bash Ali’s birthday this year promises to be the talk of the town going by the preparation the fans club is making for the event, adding that the occasion would also be used to send a message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remind him of the promise he made to the World Champion in Ado Ekiti during the campaign for the 2023 presidential election.

The promise, according to Oshin, was that once he (Tinubu) became the president, he would pulled resources together for the organization of the first Guinness World Record Boxing Championship in Africa, which is being planned for Nigeria in the first quarter of 2024..

“There’s no doubt the fact that boxing is an avenue to make serious money for the country without borrowing money from abroad. You can imagine what the headline would be that our legendary boxer, Bash Ali will be fighting at 68 as the oldest boxer in the world.

“This is to let the world know that an old man can fight the younger one and still defeat him in his old age. That is why we call him the “Black Moses of Boxing”.

“We have written series of letters to Mr. President, the Vice President, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Ministry of Sports and others to solicit their support for this Nigeria Project, the Guinness World Boxing Project to take place in Nigeria.

“We want to implore all Nigerians to support this noble quest and the Birthday Bash we are planning for 27 February is one of the ways for us to sensitise Nigeria,” Comrade Oshin said.
