A 25-year old teacher, Stephen Promise, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly sending his 9-year old pupil to steal her mother’s money and bring to him in the school.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that so far, the pupil, (name witheld), had reportedly stolen to the tune of the sum of N780,000, which she gave to the teacher, Mr. Promise, before the matter was exposed.
The incident happened at Prince Idowu Street, Isheri Oshun area of Lagos, where they reside and the school is located.
The suspect has been arrested and charged before the Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and conspiracy to steal the money.
According to the Police, the teacher instilled fear into the pupil and ordered her to be stealing money from her mother, Mrs. Olivia Amaka and be sending same to him in the school.
He was said to have threatened and told her that he will make her deaf and crippled if she dared tell her parents and the school management that he was collecting the money from her.
However, as the victim’s mother, Mrs. Olivia Amaka, continued losing money, she kept wondering who was stealing her money at home until she traced it to the victim.
The mother interrogated her to know what she was doing with the money and the victim then confessed that she was sending it to her teacher, Mr. Promise, who ordered her to be stealing the money and bringing to the school for him.
The matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division and the teacher was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation. And while there, he reportedly admitted to have collected some money from the victim.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then informed the Court that the complianant was no longer interested in continuing with the matter and sought to withdraw it before the Court.
The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, consequently struck out the matter.
