Man, 36, Sent To Prison For Hugging Neighbour’s Daughter, 14

A 36-year old man, Olushola Owolabi, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly hugging his neighbour’s 14-year old daughter while she was tying bathroom towel.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Owolabi has been arrested and charged for indecent assault on the victim.
The incident happened at Seriki Street, Lagos Island, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect indecently assaulted the victim, Radiah Yozooph, against her wish and thereby committed an offence liable for prosecution.
The arraignment followed the complaint by the victim’s parents, who reported the matter to the Police in the area and he was arrested and transferred to the SCID at Yaba for further investigation.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly told the Police that he actually hugged her without any negative intention and was surprised that he was alleged to have committed the alleged offence.
The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts punishment by imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned,
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 18th March, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
