Police operatives from the Commissioner of Police Special Squad have arrested two suspected deadly armed robbers operating with military uniform in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects, Edet Hilary Andrew, 39 and Ganiyu Adigun,44, were arrested while they were on military uniforms at NNPC, Ejigbo area of Lagos.
During routine monitoring and searching, the Police found them with locally made Berretta pistol, which the Police suspected they were using for robbery operations and other criminal activities in the State.
According to Police sources, the Police officers, who were on routine monitoring in the area, got intelligence information on the suspects. The Police operatives then moved into action and accosted them in the vehicle to know if they were actually military officers as they had claimed.
During interrogation, the suspects were unable to properly identify themselves, which raised reasonable suspicion that they were fake military officers and they were immediately searched.
During the routine search on them, the Police discovered the pistol and immediately arrested them. They were detained at the Command for interrogation over their alleged claims of being military officers.
While being interrogated further, they reportedly admitted that they were not military officers and were unable to explain how they got the pistol found on them as exhibit, which gave suspicion that they were criminal suspects.
The Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for impersonation and unlawful possession of firearm, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
When they were arraigned, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered them to be remanded at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s legal advice.
