The Police intelligence team from the Commissioner of Police Special Squad (CPSS) has arrested a Cameroon National resident in Nigeria with a Beretta pistol, which he was suspected to be using for robbery operation in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports the suspect, Ossang Onogo, was arrested with the pistol at Sabo, Yaba area of Lagos and transferred to the Commissioner of Police Special Squad at the Police Command, Ikeja, for interrogation.
According to Police, the DPO, Sabo Yaba, Division received credible intelligence information that the suspect, Onogo, was sighted with the gun, which he was suspected to be using for robbery operation in the area.
Thus, the Police moved into action, targeted and accosted him on the road. They then conducted routine search on him and discovered that he was in possession of the gun and it was recovered as an exhibit. He was subsequently moved to the CPSS office for more investigation on why he was in possession of the gun.
During interrogation, the suspect was unable to give satisfactory answers on how and what he was doing with the gun and was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged illegal possession of the gun.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Atafo Remilekun, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.E. Adeola, ordered his remand in custody at correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect the bail conditions and the matter was adjourned for mention.
