Night Guard Arrested For Arranging With Robbers & Carting Away N7m From Shop

A 50-year old security guard, Moshood Kuku, has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly arranging with robbers at night while on duty and burgling a shop, which he was employed to secure and carting away N7m worth of goods.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 3rd May, 2024, at the shop belonging to Makeny Balogun Limited at Ailegun Road, Bucknor area of Ejigbo, Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect, Kuku and others now at large, conspired, burgled the shop and carted away the items including 22 bags of rice, 16 cartons of groundnut oil, 40 cartons of baby food, 123 cartons of peak milk, laptop, phone among other items worth the said amount.
The owner of the shop, who locked it in the evening, left it in the care of Kuku as the sole security guard and went home. When he came to the shop the next day, the shop was open and the items inside it were missing despite the fact that the guard, Kuku, claimed to have come to work on that day.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ejigbo Division. He was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the missing items since he came to work on that day.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for conspiracy and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
Tthe Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 6th June, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
