Miss India Crowned Miss World 2017

Miss India Manushi Chhillar was crowned Miss World 2017 at the weekend, winning the top prize in the 67th edition of the pageant held this year in China.

Miss Mexico won the second place, and the third place went to Miss England.

CGTN reports that the top 5 finalists of Miss World 2017 are England, France, India, Kenya and Mexico.

While top models of Victoria’s Secret were making internet buzz about their China trip on Saturday morning, Miss World 2017 came to an end in the evening in Sanya, a famous tourist coastal resort in south China.

This year, 120 contestants from around the world gathered in Sanya and took part in the Miss World beauty pageant.

At the opening of the finale, the event saw Miss World 2012 Yu Wenxia and Miss World 2007 Zhang Zilin showed up along with Miss World 2016 Stephanie Del Valle, who crowned the winner in the final contest.

Top 10 contestants are Indonesia, Russia, England, Korea, Jamaica, Mexico, South Africa, India, Kenya and France.

Miss World or Miss Universe?

Unlike Miss Universe, the annual Miss World is allegedly about charity, humanitarianism, and talent.

There are many beauty pageants that take place at an international level. The Miss World pageant is considered as the longest running event of its kind and was created by Eric Morley in the UK in 1951. It is one of the three most publicized beauty pageants, along with Miss Universe and Miss Earth.

Miss World 2017 has introduced a new format, giving significant emphasis on social media and interactivity, where the contestants will be separated in six groups for “Head to Head Challenge” and the winner was selected from each group to move on to Top 40 finalists.

The Top 40 finalists came from winners of five fast-track events and fifteen will be chosen by the jury.

The fast-track categories are Miss World Beach Beauty, Beauty With a Purpose, Sports Challenge, Talent and Top Model.

The tie with Sanya

Sanya was announced to host the 67th edition of the pageant following a strategic cooperation agreement signed with the New Silk Road Fashion Organization on February 27, 2017. It was the seventh time that Sanya hosted the competition. (Sanya hosted the Miss World Finals in the years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2015).
