Man, 60, Attacks Wife’s Lawyer For Allegedly Aiding Crisis

A Lagos Lawyer, Barr. Alowonle Yetunde, had a nasty experience while defending a woman against her husband before the Court over family matters as the woman’s husband attacked and inflicted injury on her alleging that she was aiding the crisis between him and the wife.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ebute Metta Magistrate Court, where Barr. Yetunde went to defend her client against her husband, Ogungbe Emmanuel.
The 60-year old husband, Emmanuel, attacked the lawyer, who represented his wife after the Court sitting in a complicated family matter that involved him and his wife.
His action has landed him in trouble as he was arrested and charged before the Court on a two-count charge of assault and breach of public peace before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate Court.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Kolade Tedunjaye, explained that Mr. Ogungbe committed the offence on 15th May, 2024, within the premises of the Court.
Tedunjaye also told the Court that Ogungbe attacked Barr. Alowonle Yetunde in the course of rendering her professional services as Ogungbe pounced on the counsel and inflicted serious injury on her.
Tedunjaye said the offence violated Sections 168 and 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate, O.O. Ikobayo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The Court ordered Ogungbe to submit his international passport and held that one of the sureties must have a landed property.
The matter was adjourned till 7th June, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
