It was a sad end in Oyo State for two armed robbers, Damilare Adeniran and Gift John, who are standing trial before the Court as they jumped from the Court’s two-storey building in order to escape justice but died in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened Iyaganku Magistrate Court premises, Ibadan, where the deceased along with three other gang members were charged for conspiracy and armed robbery.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Femi Omilana, told the Court that two suspects jumped down from the two-storey building while standing trial at Court 11 of the facility.
He noted that one of the suspects broke the window in the Courtroom and jumped out while the other rushed out and dived over the rail in front of the courthouse.
Inspector Omilana stated that the suspects committed the act as the Magistrate, Mrs. Gladys Oladele, was about to announce the date for the next adjournment of the case.
The Police had charged the suspects and three others for conspiracy and armed robbery and had appeared in Court twice before the latest appearance.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Femi Omilana, had earlier told the Court that the five suspects were remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Service, Agodi, Ibadan, since 2023 pending legal advice from the Directorate of Ppublic Prosecution (DPP) on the case.
Inspector Omilana said the five suspects sometime in 2023, while armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, robbed some victims of their belongings before they were arrested by the Police and charged to Court.
He said the three other suspects were remanded in custody for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready while the Magistrate, Mrs. Gladys Oladele, adjourned the matter till 8th July, 2024, for the availability of the report from the DPP, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
