Police DSP Escapes Death After Tricycle Operator Knocked Him Down On Highway

The Divisional Traffic Officer, DSP Ifesindi Celestine, of the Isheri Oshun Division in Lagos State, has been hospitalized after a tricycle operator allegedly attempted to crush him while performing his official duty at night on the highway.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened along Isheri Oshun -Ijegun Road, Isheri Oshun area of Lagos.
The tricycle operator, Agboola Abiodun, has been arrested and charged for his conduct.
The 34-year old rider was alleged to have used his TVS tricycle with registration number, Lagos MUS 110QM while driving in a reckless manner to knock down DSP Celestine and injured him in the process.
Apart from that, he damaged the security Walkie talkie worth N100,000 belonging to the Nigeria Police Force in the process of knocking down the victim and, attempted to escape before he was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his conduct.
He was subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence,, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Court ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation with evidence of payment of tax and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 25th June, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
