2 Jumia Company Staff Docked For Stealing N96.4m Products

Police operatives from the Area G Command, Ogba, Lagos, have arrested two staff of Jumia Nigeria Limited for allegedly conspiring and stealing different products worth N96.4m in their outlet. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Police alleged that the staff, Mbaliri Celestine, 35 and Obor Idobogbe, 39, stole the items on or before 15th March, 2024, at their outlet located at Surulere street, off Acme Road, Ogba area of Lagos, where they were employed as staff.

 

Some of the items allegedly stolen included 60 pieces of Inverter batteries worth N17m, 40 pieces of home theater sound systems worth N27m, 10 pieces of air conditioners worth N5.6m, 16 pieces of microwave oven valued at N5.6m, solar batteries worth N6m, 20 pieces of different television sets valued at N14m among other items worth the said total amount.

 

The Police did not state how the suspects managed to steal those items within the said period without the consent of the management.

 

According to the Police, the company realized that the items were missing after they conducted an internal audit and summoned the concerned staff to explain what happened to the items but they were unable to give satisfactory responses.

 

Thus, the matter was reported to the Police. They were then arrested and detained for interrogation over the missing items and yet they were unable to explain what happened.

 

After interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ogba Magistrate for conspiracy and stealing.

 

However, they pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted them bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood, tax payment and addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at Kirikiri correctional center pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
