Market Knows No Tribe

During elections, we often succumb to political gimmicks, falling prey to ethnic bigotry and even resorting to violence against fellow citizens who support different candidates. This divisive behaviour not only undermines our unity but also infringes upon the fundamental right of individuals to freely choose their leaders. It’s crucial to remember that in Nigeria, government policies are meant to benefit all citizens regardless of tribe or region. There is no segregated market for Yorubas, Igbos, or Hausas; every policy impacts the entire nation equally.
Similarly, there is no market that favours one political party over another. Holding a membership card does not entitle anyone to cheaper prices at the supermarket. It is high time we prioritized good governance by electing credible leaders with proven track records of service and integrity.
Achieving this goal requires reforming our electoral processes to ensure transparency and fairness. Real-time transmission of election results by INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission) should be mandated by law to guarantee that every vote counts. This step is essential for Nigeria to progress beyond its current state and strive towards a better future.
In conclusion, our nation must transcend the divisions of ethnicity and political affiliation, which had plagued us during elections. By focusing on merit, integrity, and equitable governance, we can build a stronger and more unified Nigeria where every citizen’s voice is heard and respected.
