Owo Is One Association Faults Nullification Of Law Creating 33 LCDA In Ondo State

Posted on June 27, 2024

The Owo is One Association, after a careful preliminary consideration of the judgement of the High Court in Akure on the 20th June 2024, strongly condemns the invalidation of the Local Government law establishing the newly created 33 local government development areas.

The Association particularly finds distasteful the allusion to Owo and Ose Local Government Areas as beneficiaries of increased LCDAs as unmerited under equity. The claimants in the suit, under selective amnesia ingenious forgot that the issue of equity cannot be treated in isolation of the past and continuing political and social iniquities that the creation of the LCDAS was meant to address.

It bears no repetition that the primary responsibility of any responsible government is the promotion of social, political and economic well-being of the citizenry, which purpose is substantially satisfied by bringing government closer to the people, through the avenue of creation of local government development areas.

Owo is One Association, therefore, charges Ondo State Government to explore appropriate legal channels to ensure the restoration of the court inspired invalidation of the 33 local government development areas without any further delay.
