Why Police Must Unravel Untimely Death of Mohbad —Oba Elegushi

Posted on June 28, 2024

The Elegushi of Ikate Kingdom in Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi Kunsela III, has urged the Nigeria Police to unravel the mystery surrounding the untimely death of music act, Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as ‘Mohbad.’

The monarch made this known through his lawyer, Barrister Adepeju Omotayo of Bandele Omotayo & Co., at the continuation of trial of two suspects, James Adeshola and Awiye Azeez, on the claims of unwarranted cyber bullying and defamation Oba Elegushi suffered in their hands over the death of Mohbad.

According to Barrister Omotayo, the traditional ruler is passionate in his position on the matter as he has continued to admonish all those seeking justice to do so responsibly and in accordance with the law.

She stated in strong terms that “Kabiyesi will not allow anyone, no matter his or her status or position in the society, tarnish his good name and reputation for whatever gain.”

Omotayo restated that Oba Elegushi never met or interacted with late Mohbad, his wife or any member of his family and hoped this put an end to the needless buffoonery of dragging him into the matter.

“Kabiyesi said his desire as a father and a leader was to see the unraveling of the circumstances leading to the death of Mohbad, and this he did emphatically to Mr. Josiah Aloba, Mohbad’s dad, when they met at the Zone 2 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Onikan, when Mr. Aloba was invited for questioning over unfounded statements and allegations against Kabiyesi.”

She also added that Oba Elegushi demonstrated magnanimity at the said meeting by intervening and ensuring the Police did not detain Mr. Aloba as his interest was to see late Mohbad and his family get justice and not to oppress.

The trial of the two accused persons will resume on 5 July, 2024, at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
