Man, 34, Arrested For Carting Away Container Containing N495m Goods

A 34-year old man, Rilwan Akintunde, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly carting away a 40-feet container containing different items worth N495m belonging to AUG Logistics. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened this August,2024 at Tesibiu Street, Mosafejo area of Ojo, Lagos.

 

The Police did not disclose if the suspect was the agent that cleared the container from the Wharf for him to have had access to divert the container or the employee of the owner of AUG Logistics.

 

However, the Police alleged that the suspect conspired with others now at large to steal the container containing the goods worth the amount in question and escaped.

 

When the complainant discovered that the suspect had bolted away with the container, they reported the matter to the Police at Ojo Division. The Police moved into action, eventually traced and arrested the suspect and detained him at the station for interrogation.

 

After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable for the alleged conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal Laws of the State.

The charges read:

COUNT 1: That you, Riliwan Akintunde ‘M’ and others now at large on d that Riliwan and others at No. 11 Tesibiu Street, Mosafejo, on 11th August, 2024 at about 11:00hours, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing in the Ojo Magisterial district, thereby committed an offence  punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

COUNT II: That you, Riliwan Akintunde ‘M’ and others now at large, within Ojo Magisterial District, did steal Forty (40) feet Container, containing various goods valued N495,000,000.00 (Four Hundred and Ninety Five Million Naira) property of AUG Logistics, represented by one Chikezie Godwin M’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

 

However, he pleaded not guilty

The prosecutor, Supol Uche Simeon, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 18th September, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
