Review: As Asake Dropped His Third Album, Lungu Boy Last Friday…

Posted on August 15, 2024

Asake recently released his third studio album, which, as always, can be streamed on Apple Music.

Recently, the streaming platform launched a Flexa Bundle campaign to enable customers subscribe using their airtime, in addition to a unique data package.

Interestingly, Apple Music partnered with MTN on this.

Here is our thoughts on the album:

Consistently dropping hits since 2022, the Sungbalaja crooner finally released another banger album on Friday, August 9, 2024!

The album, titled “Lungu Boy” and Asake’s third, has been widely anticipated amongst fans and general Afrobeats lovers who have become familiar with the artist’s eccentric voice and signature style in mainstream Nigerian music, ever since he made the announcement on June 10, 2024.

Following the massive success of his previous two albums, Mr. Money With The Vibe and Work of Art, Asake has garnered praises for his eclectic approach to music and depth to songwriting, building a cult base of aficionados and critics alike. With Lungu Boy finally out, here’s what we think sets it apart:

Truly, Mr. Money no dey waste time as the 13-track studio album poses to be a massive hit already. As he has always done, the playlist touches on important facets of human life such as fame, patience, hard work and pleasure, as well as a sneak peek into his thoughts with titles like Worldwide, Active, Suru and My Heart.

One of the standout aspects of “Lungu Boy” is Asake’s dynamic approach to sound, beat, and tempo. He experiments with different rhythms, creating an immersive experience that actually makes you want to feel the song. From the upbeat, energetic tracks to the slower, more introspective ones, Asake smoothly blends different genres from highlife to Amapiano and even incorporates international flavours, reminding us of his versatility and why he is a trailblazing effect in the industry.

Apart from the music sensation teaching us life lessons, offering sassy takes, and riding us on a wave of culture and art, the album features a line-up of electrifying artistes such Starboy Wizkid – a much-anticipated collaboration for many Asake fans, British rappers Central Cee and Own It crooner Stormzy, American rapper Travis Scott, and Brazilian singer, Ludmila.

To add some spice, he included a touch of his artistic Fuji fusion- a “bonus” Fuji vibe for listeners to jive to. With the album already generating a rave, this could be another defining moment not just for the musical sensation but for Afrobeats as a whole, breaking another ground on the world stage.

Dedicated to bringing his third studio album to a city near you, the Sungbalaja crooner is currently touring the world on his Lungu Boy World Tour.

To listen to the eccentric sounds of the man of the hour, alongside many other artists and your favourite podcasts, there is a special deal for you!
