Imaginary Success As Enabler Of Vices

One of Nigeria’s biggest enablers of vices is the craze to celebrate imaginary success and achievement.

Everybody is putting each other under undue pressure to appear successful and stupendously wealthy.

This pursuit of status and recognition makes people prioritise appearances over genuine accomplishments.

In Nigeria, social media and public perception usually amplify this trend, creating pressure to display a lifestyle that may not be authentic.

This “imaginary success” can manifest in various forms, such as flashy cars, extravagant parties, and the new slogan of “luxury or nothing”, often fueled by loans or suppliers’ credit to maintain a flamboyant image. The long-term effects are usually detrimental, leading to financial strain, mental health challenges, and a societal focus on superficial values rather than hard work and integrity.

We have all forgotten that there is fulfilment in celebrating the journey to success rather than success itself

Celebrating the journey often brings a more profound sense of gratitude and appreciation. The moments, learning experiences, and growth we encounter along the way shape who we are.

Each step that contributes to our success often teaches us valuable lessons that we wouldn’t trade for the final outcome.

True success is defined by personal fulfilment, not external validation.
