Lady, 35, Docked For Biting Off Rival’s Lower Lip During Public Brawl

A lady, Patience John, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly inflicting injury on her rival, Amarachi Anyiam, by biting off her lower lip during a public fight.

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 9th September, 2024, at Alhaji Popoola Street, Ojugbidie area of Meiran, Lagos, where they reside.

 

The cause of the fight was not disclosed by the Police, who alleged Patience John to have caused grievous harm by permanently damaging her lip due to a bite during the brawl.

 

When the alleged assault was reported to the Police at Meiran Division, the suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her conduct on the victim.

 

During interrogation, the suspect was said not to have shown any remorse and she was found culpable for her conduct. She was consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

The charges read:

COUNT I: That you Patience John “F” on the 9th September, 2024 at about 19:30hours at No. 43, Alhaji Popoola Street, Ojugbidie, Meiran, Lagios State, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did unlawfully inflict grievous harm on one Amarachi Anyiam “F” by cutting away the lower part of her lip with your teeth, throwing it away and making her deformed permanently and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and Punishable under Section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”

 

COUNT II: That you, Patience John “F” on same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did wound one Amarachi Anyiam “F”, you did unlawfully inflict wound on one Amarachi Anyiam “F” and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and Punishable under Section 246 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.”

 

She pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Ex. Kubenije, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
