12 Sex Workers Jailed With 7 Others Remanded Over Prostitution

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI, has secured the conviction of 12 sex workers and while the remaining 7 were remanded in custody over prostitution in the State. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the KAI operatives raided Obalande area of Lagos Island, where they arrested the workers for constituting nuisance in the area by engaging in prostitution.
This was disclosed by the Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd) and he revealed the names of the convicts to include Oluwaseun Durojaye, 20, Joy Felix, 24, Opeyemi Azeez, 25, Precious Mathew, 24, Happiness Kingsley, 24, Theresa Edet, 30, Ayo Olanrewaju, 20, Monica Ebuka, 21, Blessing James, 22, Favour Samuel, 34, Janet Ighumba, 24, Marvis Ifeoma, 32.
Others included Adeyanju Clara, 24, Favour Johnson, 34, Joy Rafael, 24, Promise Joseph,  23, Favour Ajoor, 28, Joy Onyekachi, 28 and Emmanuel Friday, 20.
They were arraigned and sentenced for offences bordering on prostitution and breach of  public peace under the Criminal Laws of the State, after the dislodgement operation led by the Corps Marshal of the Agency.
The Corps Marshal, Major Cole, who stated this at the Command Headquarters of the Agency at Bolade-Oshodi, Lagos, said: ‘‘The THEMES agenda of Mr. Governor clearly stated the need for Lagos to be habitable for business and the situation at Obalende has deteriorated over time, prompting the need for us to launch a large-scale enforcement operation against these nefarious elements that want to desecrate our environment which resulted in arrests and multiple secured convictions’’.
They were arraigned before a Chief Magistrate, Mr. Fadahunsi Adefioye of the Special Offences Court at Oshodi for offences contrary to Section 142(1)(a)(b) and 168(1) (d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.
The 12 convicts out of 19 were sentenced to the prison term after they pleaded guilty while the remaining seven pleaded not guilty on the alleged offence and were remanded in prison custody till 18th December, 2024, for further hearing
