In the Anglican Communion, the Synod has emerged and consequently recognized as one of the most useful and potent instruments for the governance of the Church, and even for  evangelism in some cases.
It is a religious gathering convened to discuss topics like church administration; doctrine, faith, and application. And it is increasingly employed to debate on issues that affect the modern Church, new found religious beliefs, or ideologies.
Last Saturday; 2nd November, 2024, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, also known as “Mazi Gburugburu”, a renowned Nigerian  scholar of international note, avowed  advocate of  good governance, boardroom business strategist, serial entrepreneur, uncommon philantropist, and respected community leader, was unanimously nominated by the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) as the  Guest Lecturer for the Second Session of the 10th Synod of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, Diocese of Egbu, as he spoke on the topic: “Nzube Chukwu – God Is A Thinker: Development As A Godly Mandate.”
The Synod, which started with a high mass, had the following as highpoints of the religious event; Bible study session, questions and answers, presidential address by the Bishop of Egbu Diocese, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Enyinnaya Okoroafor, as he professes God’s unending steadfastness amid very challenging times of harsh economy, insecurity, and mental stress occasioned by pressure to meet up, pay for one’s bills,  and also to  provide for one’s family.
The St.Mary’s Anglican Church, Umuokoro, Ngor- Okpala LGA, Imo State, venue of the religious watershed event, witnessed unprecedented surge in attendance as a retinue of the colourful  entourage of Mazi Gburugburu was practically thronged upon by the army of enthusiastic supporters, villagers, community leaders, and numerous youths, who abandoned everything they were doing to welcome the guest lecturer and their illustrious son, Chima Amadi; a man who has touched their lives in diverse ways, and one from whose heart flows the milk of human kindness.
Expectedly, the guest lecturer, Chima Matthew Amadi, Doctoral Fellow,   University of Warwick, United Kingdom, in a Martin Luther-like electrified speech, delivered a mind blowing, thought-provoking, and attention captivating lecture that held his audience spellbound.
The lecture topic:  “Nzube Chukwu- God Is A Thinker:  Development As A Godly Mandate”, resonated very deeply with the audience as they took note of the many issues bothering on leadership, development, good governance, and robust engagement that the guest lecturer, Maazi Gburugburu, raised during his lecture.
Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi,  a well travelled distinguished scholar of international repute, researcher, London trained economist, political scientist, public policy expert, social organizer, entrepreneur, and billionaire business maverick, brought his vast knowledge to bear on the subject matter as he eloquently emphasized God’s role as a great thinker and strategic planner, who divinely crafted the universe from the void state of creation.
Citing the book of Genesis; the guest lecturer, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi,  reechoed that: “God created man in His own image, mandating us to act like Him, co-create, and subdue the earth,  actualizing His divine purpose for man as a greater thinker and strategic planner. He further highlighted humanity’s responsibility to mirror God’s thinking, fostering justice, peace, and righteousness.
In the light of the above therefore, Chima Amadi expressed deep concerns over Nigeria’s increasing economic challenges, citing poor governance, inequality, and social injustice as he objectively criticized the political leaders’ lack of vision and commitment to the social welfare of the Nigerian masses.
Rounding off his lecture, as he made  exponential references to the socio-economic challenges faced by man, drawing his strengths and citations from the scriptures, Maazi Gburugburu, however, appealed to men and brethren to be thinkers, maintaining that the time has come for the body of Christ to be avid thinkers.
Chima Amadi, a careless giver, and one in whom charity runs in his DNA; in a remarkable display of philanthropy, donated a whooping sum of N15, 000,000.00 (Fifteen Million Naira) to the  Church as he demonstrated his unwavering commitment to support the Church of God and her projects.
The Synod Guest Lecture Award was later presented to him by the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Diocese of Egbu, in recognition of his outstanding contributions in human capital development and socio-economic transformation, on the occasion marking the Second Session of the Tenth Synod of the Diocese.
Creme of the society that accompanied Mazi Gburugburu to the event included but not limited to the House Committee Chairman on Petroleum Resources; and member representing Ideato North|Ideato South Federal Constituency, Hon. Barr. Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu (Ikenga Imo), Hon. Attorney Matthew Nwogu; member representing Aboh- Mbaise|Ngor- Okpala Federal Constituency, High Chief Ezenwa Nwagwu, Advocate of good governance and transparency, Hon. Blyden Amajirionwu, a former member for Ngor- State Constituency, Hon.Chief Henry Chukwudi Owunkwe (Apitti), Dr. Emeka Onunamadu.
They individually made substantial donations to the church in a show of love and solidarity to Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi (Mazi Gburugburu).
