A 37-year old man, Obhiero Pius, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly making Police uniforms and started working on the highway before he was caught in the act.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Pius, was arrested on the Highway in Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos, fully dressed in Police uniform performing illegal duty.
He however, ran out of luck when the Police Tactical and Monitoring team went on routine monitoring in the area and accosted him. They interrogated him to know if he was actually a Police officer but he was unable to give satisfactory response.
He was subsequently arrested and detained at the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja, for interrogation over the suspicion of being a fake Police officer.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he made the uniform and went on the road to work to earn a living in order to take care of his family.
The Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for impersonation.
The charge read:
“That you, Obhiebo Pius ‘m’ on 6th day of July, 2023 at about 0830hrs at lyana Ipaja area of Lagos State, in the Lagos magisterial district, did impersonate to be a sergeant in the Nigeria Police Force, fullt dressed in a black on black police uniform and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 350 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigerin 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
