A man, Akintoye Waris, has landed in trouble in Ogun State for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat worth at ₦200,000, which he used to prepare food for guests during his child’s naming ceremony on Christmas day.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Waris was later arrested alongside his accomplice,  Ajayi Yusuf, in connection with the incident and detained in custody for interrogation over their alleged conduct.

The alleged theft took place on 25th December, 2024, but he was arrested  on 2nd January, 2025, in Odeda area of Ogun State, where the suspects allegedly conspired and stole the goat.

This was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola. She said the arrest was effected by the  Police operatives of the Odeda Division.

Odutola explained that the suspects reportedly targeted a local farm and stole the goat on 25th December, 2024, taking advantage of the absence of the farm owner, identified simply as Mark, who had taken the cattle out for grazing.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the stolen goat was used to prepare meals for the naming ceremony of Waris’s daughter, which took place in the Olodo area of the state. The theft and subsequent use of the animal reportedly caused significant distress to the farm owner, who valued the goat at ₦200,000.”

“The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation at the Divisional Crime Branch.”

Odutola assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that justice is served in the matter.

This incident sparked reactions in the local community, with many calling for stricter security measures to protect livestock and deter similar offences.

The Police image maker stated that  Waris and Yusuf will remain in custody while the investigations continue and will be charged before the Court for the alleged offence but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
