Security Guard Lands In Trouble Over Inability To Prevent Robbery Operation

A 23-year old company security guard,  Hussaini Mohammed, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he was employed by a water factory and robbers invaded the place at night, carted away property worth over N2.45m and escaped. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the management got him arrested and charged before the Court for failure to prevent the commission of crime,  conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The incident happened at Sugarland water factory located at Olalekan Adeoye Street, Liasu Road, Ikotun Lagos, where he was employed as a security guard.
According to the Police, the guard was employed by the company and robbers storm the place, stole the items while he was said to be on duty on the day the incident happened.
However,  in the morning,  when the management resumed for work and discovered what happened, the guard was asked to explain what happened. But he was unable to explain despite the fact that he claimed to be on duty on that day.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ikotun Division. He was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the stolen items.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
COUNT I: “That you, Hussaini Mohammed ‘m’ and others still at large, within the month of December, 2024, at Olalekan Adeoye Street, Liasu Road, Ikotun Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony to wit; stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411, of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Hussaini Mohammed ‘m’ on same period and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did fail to use all reasonable means as a security operative to prevent the commissioning of a crime and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 410, of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Hussaini Mohammed ‘m’ and others still at large, on same period and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal One 75cl mould, 1litre mould, One pumping machine, one 75Amps generator battery, one wheel jack, 10pieces of 50cl bottle water and cash sum of N2,451,000.00 property of Sugarland water factory and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishabl under Section 287(7), of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
COUNT IV:”That you, Hussaini Mohammed ‘m’ on 22nd December, 2024, at about 0200hrs, at Sugarland water factory, at  Olalekan Adeoye Street, Liasu Road, Ikotun Lagos, in th Lagos Magisterial District, did maliciously damage the armoured cable of the factory generator valued N85,000.00 property of Sugarland water factory and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 350, of the Lago State Criminal Law, 2015.”
However,  he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate,  Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 20th January, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
