Musawa Sends Husseini, Others To Netflix HQ Over Nigerian Content Concerns

Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musawa, has dispatched a delegation to Amsterdam to meet with streaming giant Netflix.

A statement on Tuesday confirmed that the meeting will take place at Netflix’s Corporate Headquarters.

The delegation is led by Executive Director/CEO of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Dr. Shaibu Husseini.

He will be joined by key industry stakeholders, including Play Network’s Charles Okpaleke, FilmOne’s Group Managing Director Kene Okwuosa, filmmaker Moses Iwang and Film Distributors Association of Nigeria (FDAN) President Joy Odiete.

The meeting will address Netflix’s recent decision to halt commissioning original Nigerian content and its impact on the country’s film industry.

The engagement with Netflix will also underscores the ministry’s commitment to fostering Nigeria’s creative economy and safeguarding local content creators.

The meeting is expected to yield positive outcomes for Nollywood and pave the way for future collaborations.

“As the Minister responsible for driving the growth of Nigeria’s creative economy, Barrister Musawa has consistently demonstrated her dedication to empowering local talent and promoting cultural exchange.

“This meeting is a testament to her efforts to foster international partnerships that benefit Nigeria’s creative sector,” the statement concluded.
