Man, 38, Docked For Buying Stolen N8m Gold Jewelries At Egbeda Market

A 38-year old man, Mohammed Ibrahim, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly buying stolen N8m gold pendants belonging to Mrs. Oluyemisi Olukoya at Egbeda market.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Olugbede Market, Egbeda area of Lagos.
According to the Police, an undisclosed person brought the stolen items to the suspect and asked him to buy it for an undisclosed amount of money.
However, after paying for the items, the Police operatives from the Airport Division traced the stolen items to his shop. He was arrested him and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Mohammed Ibrahim, sometime in August, 2024, at Shop 3, Olugbede Market, Egbeda, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial district, did dishonestly receive stolen property, one gold pendant belonging to one Mrs. Oluyemisi Olukoya, valued eight million Naira (N8,000,000.00), and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 328 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
