A 43-year old man, Kwasi Enebradiza, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for recruiting self into both the Nigerian Army and Police at the same time.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect was arrested at Gbagada area for impersonating as a member of the Armed Forces and wearing Police uniform while arresting members of the public.
However, he ran out of luck as the Commissioner of Police Special Squad 2, who were on routine monitoring accosted him to know if he was a Military man and wearing Police uniform while arresting members of the public.
When he was interrogated, he was unable to give satisfactory response. He was promptly arrested and detained at the Command for further investigation over his conduct.
During the interrogation, he admitted that he recruited himself and was never recruited into the Military and Police as he had earlier claimed. The Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Laws of the State, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Kwasi Enebradizha ‘m’ at about 0720hrs at Gbagada Area of Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial district, did impersonate members of armed forces, wearing Police uniform as a serving officer, arresting ‘members of the public and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 77 (a) (b) of the criminal law of Lagos State Nigeria, 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
