A 25-year old man, Musa Abubakar, has told the Police in Lagos State that he actually recruited himself into the Nigerian Army and he did so after several failed attempts to join the Military.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Abubakar, reportedly made the confession after he was apprehended by the Police operatives from Ojo Division for impersonation under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The suspect was arrested along Volks bus stop in Ojo area during routine monitoring by the Police while putting on a woodland camouflage face cap. When he was accosted, he was unable to explain himself satisfactorily.
Consequently, he was taken to the Police station for further interrogation. He eventually confessed and told the Police that he was actually the person that recruited himself and had been performing the duty of a Military officer before he was eventually arrested on the highway.
The Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Musa Abubakar ‘m’ on the 11th day of January; 2025 at about 1715hrs at Volks Bus Stop Lagos State in the Ojo Magisterial District, did unlawfully impersonate yourself to be a member of the Nigerian Army, the representation you know to be false by putting on a woodland Camouflage Face Cap and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 77 (a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, he did not waste the time of the Court and pleaded guilty as he pleaded for leniency.
The prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, presented the facts of the matter and asked the Court that since he pleaded guilty, the Court should sentence him accordingly for the alleged offence to serve as deterrent to others who might want to commit similar crimes in the future.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ogun, found him guilty as charged and sentenced him accordingly.
He was then remanded in the correctional center where he will serve his jail term.
