Some Police Officers of the rank of Inspector of Police, who claimed they were promoted to the rank of Inspector of Police in 2018 and confirmed in 2020, have appealed passionately to the Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun and the Police Service Commission, PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Agungu Retd. to look into their promotion to the next rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP to boost their morale and gallantry for the job.

Some of the officers who spoke with our correspondent, under strict conditions of anonymity because they are Civil Servant and not authorised to speak with the press, said that they decided to speak out to remind the Police authority that they had been on the Inspector rank for the past eight years and had been waiting patiently to be promoted to the next rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP since 2023  and that they are now appealing to the Inspector of Police,  IGP and the PSC Chairman  to urgently look into their .matter and promote them to the next rank.

The officers, who said they enlisted in the Force in 2001, stated that they also decided to cry out for their promotion when they heard unconfirmed reports that their juniors who enlisted into the Police Force in 2002 and 2003 were being promoted through the back door to the rank of ASP with strange method called SPECIAL Promotion without the knowledge of the office of the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission.

They said if such is happening in the Police Force, which they still believed is a rumour, would demoralised and kill the morale of Police Inspectors who had been waiting  for their promotion for the past eight years.

According to one of the aggrieved officer, “We thanked our able Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun and the PSC Chairman, Hashimu Agungu for their wonderful performance since they assumed office and for their ceaseless promotion of deserving Police officers to their next rank and we the 2018 Inspectors are now appealing to our leaders to extend the promotion to us to further boost  our morale for the job. because our promotion is long overdue.”

Another officer stated, “We know that before promotion is done, many things like the present economy situation and the availability of funds, would be taken into consideration. But we are appealing that the Police authority should also squeeze  the system and promote the 2018 Inspectors to the next rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP just the same way it had been promoting other officers in recent time,” the Officer appealed.
