Caverton Marine, NNPC, Stena Bulk Partner To Launch Unity Shipping Worldwide

Posted on May 13, 2025

Caverton Marine Limited, a subsidiary of Caverton Offshore Support Group (COSG), has partnered with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and Swedish Shipping giant Stena Bulk to establish Unity Shipping Worldwide, a new global maritime venture.

The strategic joint venture was officially formalised in April 2025 at the NNPC Towers in Abuja.

The joint venture marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s quest to reposition itself as a key player in global energy logistics.

It aligns with NNPC’s long-standing vision to strengthen its shipping operation through NNPC Shipping Limited (NSL) and to expand its footprint in international maritime transportation.

Caverton’s inclusion as the Nigerian partner reflects its industry leadership and proven track record in delivering marine and aviation logistics services across the oil and gas value chain.

With clients such as Shell, Chevron, Total, and Nigeria LNG, Caverton is well-positioned to bring operational depth, local insight, and commercial capability to the partnership.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, NNPC’s Group CEO, Mr. Bayo Ojulari, described the initiative as a critical step in the company’s transformation agenda. “Shipping is central to our growth strategy, and this venture represents a historic and unprecedented leap forward for NNPC and Nigeria.”

The partnership has been widely applauded by senior government officials.

Minister of Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, called the venture a bold step in advancing local content and industrial reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. “Caverton’s role at the core of this partnership demonstrates our commitment to indigenous empowerment and sustainable national growth,” he said.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, also praised the collaboration, noting that it aligns with the Ministry’s push to re-establish Nigeria’s presence in global shipping through strong private-sector participation.

Unity Shipping Worldwide is expected to enhance Nigeria’s shipping capacity, boost employment, and contribute to long-term economic development.
