Man, 32, Docked For Selling Victim’s N7.7m Vehicle

A 32-year old man, Nwosu Austine, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly selling a vehicle worth over N7. 7m belonging to Akinlabi Adeshola and bolting away with the money. 
 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 22nd December, 2022, at Breadfruit Street, Lagos Island area of Lagos.
However, three years after, he was arrested and charged over his alleged conduct.
According to the Police, the complainant entrusted the vehicle to the suspect’s care for him sell and remit the money to him. But the suspect sold the vehicle, bolted away with the money and disconnected every communication he had with the complainant.
The matter was reported to the Police, who later arrested him and detained him at SCID Yaba for interrogation.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, NWOSU AUSTINE ‘M’, on or before the December 2022, at Breadfruit Street, Lagos Island, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal the total sum of Seven Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N7,700,000.00), being proceeds of sales of a vehicle, property of Akinlabi Adeshola ‘m’ and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Kolade Tedunjaye, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. K.S. Abdulsalam, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
