Man, 25, Arraigned For Stealing Oranges Under Lagos Bridge

A 25-year old man, Lekan Waheed, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing some oranges worth about N200,000 under the bridge before he was caught by the owner, Ganiu Moruf. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened under the bridge at lyana Iba, Ojo area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect and others now at large conspired and stole the oranges. While he tried to escape, the owner raised alarm and he was caught and then handed over to the Police at Ojo Division.
The Police interrogated and found him culpable before they charged him before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT 1: “That you, Lekan Waheed ‘M’ and others now at large on the 20th day of April, 2025 at about 090hrs under the lyana Iba bridge, Ojo, in the Ojo Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Lekan Waheed ‘M’ and others now at large on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal oranges valued N200,000.00 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) property of Ganiu Moruf, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Uche Simeon, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J Layeni, granted him bail with surety, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while address will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 30th July, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
