2 Men Arraigned For Stealing 26 Units of Air Conditioners At Banana Island

Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested two men, Lot Stephen, 24 and Peter Daniel, 25, for allegedly stealing 26 pieces of air conditioners worth N15m belonging to Daniel Akan.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Banana Island, Ikoyi area of Lagos.

According to the Police, the suspects and others now at large conspired, went where the complainant kept the items and carted them away without his consent.

The matter later got exposed after the complainant discovered that the items were missing and reported to the Police. Hence the operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspects and detained them at the Command for interrogation.

After interrogation, the Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read: “That you, Lot Stephen and Peter Daniel and others now at large on 17th day of February, 2025, at about 0130hrs within Banana Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial district, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of Criminal Law, Ch. C17 Vol.3 Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

Count II: “That you, Lot Stephen and Peter Daniel and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial district, did steal 26 Air Conditioners (AC) value at N15m, property of one Daniel Akan “M” and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 (5) (a) of the Criminal Law Ch. C17 Vol. 3. Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

However, they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Chinalu Uwadione, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Akingbesote, granted them bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
