Kano has lost one of its greatest sons and a true Nigerian elder statesman —Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.

The legendary businessman passed away a couple of hours ago in Abu Dhabi at the age of 94.

His death was announced early Saturday by his Principal Private Secretary, Mustapha Abdullahi Junaid, who wrote, “Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved father Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and forgive his shortcomings. The Janazah details will be shared later insha Allah.”

The deceased was the last surviving child of Alhassan Dantata, (Dantata, himself!) and grandfather to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.

The famous Kano businessman was a pillar of wisdom, philanthropy, and integrity.

Dantata was one of the greatest businessmen of his time in West Africa, a respected voice of wisdom, and a pioneer whose legacy shaped commerce and philanthropy across generations.

His contributions to the continent’s economic and social development will forever be remembered.
